JSM 2019: Reminiscing on the Impact
Let us reflect on yet another successful JSM, set against a backdrop of the awe-inspiring Colorado Front Range. I will remember fondly riding the free mall shuttle up and down 16th Street, reveling in the JSM downtown signposts welcoming us to Denver, connecting with statistical colleagues lounging for a coffee break at the Hyatt, and being greeted by the big blue bear wanting to get in on our festivities. We for sure fulfilled ASA President Karen Kafadar’s theme of Statistics: Making an Impact at the foothills of the Rockies!
Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Wendy Martinez Elected ASA President
The membership has voted, and it elected Wendy Martinez, director of the Mathematical Statistics Research Center at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as the 115th president of the American Statistical Association. Before she takes office as president on January 1, 2020, she will serve as president-elect, beginning January 1, 2019. Members also elected Richard De Veaux, professor of statistics at Williams College, as vice president. De Veaux’s term also begins January 1, 2019.
