‘Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education’ Highlights: Podcast, Celebrating GAISE Fill October Issue

October 1, 2025 Leave a Comment

Juana Sanchez, JSDSE Editor

The October issue (Volume 33) of the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education features the transcript of a podcast jointly sponsored by Berry Consultants and JSDSE titled “Interview with Jim Albert, Part II: An Inspiring Story of Teaching Statistics with Sports Data.” Led by Scott Berry, the podcast will be available in November.

The issue also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the ASA-endorsed Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education with an article by Jeff Witmer titled “George Cobb: A Legacy of Influence,” which has been added to the George Cobb Collection. The 2005 GAISE College Report was inspired by an article from the late Cobb published in 1992 and the ensuing developments in statistics education and statistical practice. GAISE is cited in every issue of JSDSE, as it frames many innovations in statistics education.

Also in this issue are articles covering the following:

  • Undergraduate curriculum overhaul or enhancement
  • Surveys of the landscape of practice and research in statistics and data science education and writing
  • Tools and data activities to align the teaching of undergraduate regression with GAISE recommendations
  • An example of good qualitative research methodology to create theories

JSDSE is an open-access journal. Feedback about the journal and questions are welcome and can be emailed to Juana Sanchez.
