JSDSE Cover

The Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education is an international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal focused on the teaching and learning of statistics and data science. It advances the standards for teaching excellence by publishing high-quality papers with innovative and actionable insights. The intended audiences are statistics and data science teachers and those interested in related research. Since the first volume in 1993 (then called the Journal of Statistics Education), JSDSE has evolved alongside changes in technology, the growing availability of data, and evidence-based recommendations such as the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education. Journal editors select referees to conduct double-anonymized peer reviews to ensure submissions are well planned and well written.

JSDSE focuses on issues relevant to improving the process of teaching and learning statistics and data science in specific educational contexts. Topics include curricular reform in statistics, creative and tested ideas for teaching, innovative methods of instruction and assessment, research on student understanding, attitudes and beliefs about the field, use of technology and AI in teaching and assessment, new ways of looking at statistics and data science, and overviews of scholarly literature.

Authors offer clear, actionable insights for teachers and ground their advice in thorough reviews of statistics education literature, reproducible experiences and analyses, and assessments of student outcomes and experiences. Publications include detailed supplementary materials that guide readers through the author’s process, inclusing how they did it, how well it worked, and how it helped achieve their goals.

The journal discourages submissions that focus solely on theory, address educational statistics without considering the teaching of statistics and data science, or analyze data primarily for researchers in other disciplines.

This fall, the journal launched a new free podcast—Learning Curves: Conversations from the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education—to explore the genesis of published papers, their impact, and how themes connect to the current statistics and data science education landscape. The series hosts a range of authors, guests, and editorial board members.

Meanwhile, the JSDSE/CAUSE free webinars offer live, formal presentations of published papers by their authors, followed by audience questions and answers. Webinars are offered several times a year. Participants must register in advance.

JSDSE publishes approximately 40 papers per year in four issues. The acceptance rate is 15%. The journal gets more than 453,000 annual downloads, with an impact factor of 2.3. Accepted papers are published online in the Latest Articles section shortly after acceptance. Feedback and questions regarding the journal, podcast, and webinar can be emailed to Juana Sanchez, editor-in-chief.
