Registration Open for H2R 2012
The International Conference on Methods for Surveying and Enumerating Hard-to-Reach Populations will bring together survey methodologists, sociologists, statisticians, demographers, ethnographers, and other professionals from around the world to present new and innovative techniques for surveying hard-to-reach populations.
Highlights from the COPAFS December 2011 Meeting
COPAFS is the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics and acts as an advocate for the development and dissemination of high-quality federal statistics. Member organizations include professional associations, businesses, research institutes, and others interested in federal statistics. Through COPAFS, members have an opportunity to review and affect issues such as timeliness, quality, confidentiality, and the relevance of data. COPAFS holds quarterly meetings, the last one being on December 2, 2011.

NHANES: 50 Years of Health Measures and Their Contributions to Public Policy
The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey recently celebrated 50 years of providing data to inform public health policy in the United States. The goal of the survey is to supplement self-reported household interview data with actual and precise clinical measurements to better assess health and nutritional status.
ASA Meetings Survey Results
Here the ASA Membership Surveys Committee shares the analyzed responses to the recent survey on ASA meetings. The goal of the survey was to identify potential areas of improvement that would yield more meaningful meetings experiences among the ASA membership and potential new members.
Developing a Science for Recording, Estimating Casualties
As most statisticians and survey methodologists know, social data collected under any circumstance can have problems associated with them. However, data on casualties caused by political violence or war are collected under some of the most trying circumstances. A two-day conference on casualty recording and estimation in times of conflict was held to establish methods and discussed each methods strengths and weaknesses.

Mathematical Sciences Survey Results Released
The 2008 “Annual Survey of the Mathematical Sciences, Second Report” is now available. The report presents information about departments, faculties, and students in the mathematical sciences at four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
E-Books Survey Given at JSM
Every year at JSM, those staffing the ASA-SIAM series booth offer a short survey to obtain attendee feedback on issues relating to the series. This year’s survey asked demographic questions and then focused on respondents’ use of electronic books (e-books).
